These are just a few of the qualities describing Deaf or HOH individuals – and yet, are frequently overlooked! Why Melody Project?

Why the Melody Project?

For those with hearing challenges, melody is one of the hardest things to capture with hearing devices. Harder than speech. The melody of songs can be stripped of essential notes, rendering them quite different than what most of the "hearing” world would recognize. Thus, that memorable part of the song that we all sing or hum, that catchy tune that lingers in one’s mind, may be reduced to embers for those who are Deaf/HOH. And yet, even if it is fragmented, our experience is powerful. Melody is something eternal, something inexplicable that unites us all - however you hear it.

wisdom and melody

Wisdom and Melody

I think the same can be said of wisdom. It’s that magnificently well-stated insight that we impart to one another, enough to free someone from a dark moment or encourage someone when they need it the most.
The Melody Project is about those who are Deaf and HOH sharing their wisdom and their insights - so often overlooked, and yet as unique and harmonious to our existence as the melodies that bring us all together in music.

melody stays with you

A beautiful melody stays with you

I hope this book will stay with you, the way a beautiful melody lingers in one’s mind; a semblance of joy, and a tome rich with uplifting perspectives and possibilities.

About the author

Greetings!

My name is Landon, and I am a 16-year-old student, who just happens to be Deaf. In a few weeks, I will complete my AA in History, a subject that I find endlessly thought-provoking and fascinating. I am also a Davidson Young Scholar; and with a lot of hard work and dedication, have made the President’s List (Dean's List) every semester since I began community college at age 12.

I am passionate about writing books and poetry, global politics, and community projects. I think we function best as humans when we focus our efforts on uniting together, understanding each other better, and improving this world we share. Who knows what we can accomplish then?

Let's make good things happen!
